Cluster Development Proposed for Historic and Environmentally Important Western Cranston Forest
A 44 home cluster development is proposed for land formerly owned by the historic Arkwright Mill. This land, which is home to a wide variety of wildlife, is intermixed with protected wetlands. The Providence Water aqueduct runs across the site, which features elevation changes and ledge.
This is not an appropriate or safe site for a large housing development. The construction project and eventual development will increase flooding issues, threaten existing property owners, increase traffic in a small historic village and throughout Western Cranston and nearby Scituate, cause irreparable damage and destruction to important wildlife habitats, and more. Additionally, access to this large development would require the destruction of private property; including garages, yards, and even homes.

Dear Council Member,
I am writing to express my concern about a proposed large scale housing development currently under consideration for the Fiskeville area of Cranston. This proposed development is unacceptable for many reasons, including the fact that it threatens wildlife areas for many protected species, dangerously crosses the Providence Water pipeline putting public water sources at risk, would require the unlawful seizure and destruction of current homeowners' private property, allow for the removal of historically protected stone walls, increase flooding issues, cause traffic problems, and more.
Housing is important, but this is not a developable site. To build out this housing development would cause permanent damage to the rural nature of Western Cranston and destroy land that should be protected, an important priority called out in Cranston's Comprehensive Plan. And inexcusably, the development as currently proposed would require the removal and destruction of private property of current homeowners in the area.
I understand that the nature of this project means that it goes before the Planning Commission and not the City Council, but I am asking for your support in representing and conveying my concern about the scale and impact of this project.
Thank you for your help in this matter,
